§ 12-35. Established.

  • The fire department is hereby established to consist of a chief and a sufficient number of firefighters to maintain and operate the department, not to exceed 24 volunteer members and three part time paid members for a total of 27. The department and all members shall operate under the authority of the town manager acting through the fire chief. The fire chief is appointed by and works under the general direction of the town manager. The board of commissioners is responsible for providing funding for the operation of the fire department and payment of all expenses associated therewith and for establishing policy, procedures and all other matters related to the fire department, which matters shall be implemented through the town manager and subsequently by the fire chief.
