§ 12-4. Interfering with firefighter or fire apparatus.

  • (a)

    No person shall interfere with a firefighter in the discharge of his duty, or hinder him in the performance of such duty; nor shall any person other than members of the fire department loiter about any fire station, or change, handle or meddle in any manner with any fire engine or any other fire apparatus.

    (b)

    No person or property owner shall place or keep any fence, growth, trash or other material that will in any way hinder the fire department's access to a fire hydrant within three feet of all sides of a fire hydrant. The town's fire marshal or fire chief shall investigate all complaints of obstructed fire hydrants and shall notify the property owner in writing by first class mail in the event it is determined that a fire hydrant is obstructed. The owner shall have 15 days from the date of such notice to remove the obstruction. If the owner fails to remove the obstruction within such 15-day period, the town shall summarily abate the obstruction and the owner of the property shall be charged for the cost associated therewith.
